Homemade French Toast Syrup

This Homemade French Toast Syrup is the perfect pairing for your coffee or as syrup to use on your pancakes and French toast. It’s made with maple syrup, brown sugar and cinnamon which oozes the essence of French taste flavors.

Any recipe that involves breakfast flavors is always a good choice! The base of this recipe is super simple is one-to-one ratio brown sugar syrup mixed with vanilla extract and cinnamon.

Most of these ingredients will be in your cupboard already so it’s easy to knock together in 5 minutes and require minimal tools.

 What You’ll Need

Ingredients for french toast syrup
  • Water
  • Brown sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon OR two cinnamon sticks
  • Sauces Pan 
  • Whisk or Wooden Spoon 
  • 8 oz (250 ml) Sanitised bottle, I used Kilner Clip Top Square Bottle

How to Make French Toast Syrup

  • In a small to medium sized saucepan add one part water and one part brown sugar. 
  • Bring to the boil, stir until the sugar dissolves. Turn down the temperature to a medium heat and allow the mixture to boil for 4 minutes.  
  • Turn the sugar syrup off and add the vanilla extract and cinnamon. Let the mixutre cool for 15-20 minutes 
  • If using cimmamon sticks remove these and pour the mixture your sanitised bottles. Make sure these are tightly sealed. 
  • Once cool enough store in the fridge. 

How Long Can You Keep French Toast Syrup?

Once you’ve made your syrup you can store it for up to two weeks in the refrigerator, in a sealed container.  This recipe makes around 8 oz (250 ml) of syrup, making enough for all of the lattes you could want!

What Can You Do With Syrup?

Syrups are way more versatile than you think, if you’ve read my ways to use flavored syrups then you know there are so many good uses for syrup. For French Toast syrup my favorite pairings are:

  • Pancakes, waffles, and french toast.
  • Add the syrup to cooked sweet potatoes or use it as a glaze to roast them with.
  • Drizzle over ice cream.
  • Cake Icing. 
  • Add to your coffee, this French Toast Latte recipes is basically French Toast in a class. You can also make this into an iced latte.
  • Cocktails. Bourbon is the perfect alcohol pairing for this. You will get the cinnamon, vanilla and bourbon flavors coming through.
